Only in the event of an emergency you should contact the tourist police for both sides will be heard always (et audiatur altera pars, this is known in our countries, too), particularly if you have an complaint against a Thai citizen.

Thus, if you have good reasons it is better to contact the tourist police instead of going to a normal police station. The tourist police is better trained for the event and the officers speak English. A case in point was you are involved in a jewelry scam or you are robbed.

A farang (western alien) was missing all of his money. In no time he suspected the Thai lady who had stayed with him over night and he called the tourist police. They approached to the case and searched the hotel- room. The officers are experienced anyway. In the freezer they found all the money. Our drunken 'hero' had put the money there for security reasons.
He had to pay 5,000 Baht to get rid of the embarrassing situation and everybody in Bangkok knew it this very day!
